In October 2009 KAGE was launched as the creative brainchild of duo Arwa Abdelhadi and Basma Abu Ghazaleh in Dubai. KAGE is a womenswear brand focusing on making women feel attractive both day and night. The debut collection is stocked in Boutique 1 (Dubai) and represents a fusion of vintage inspired pieces with emphasis on embellishment and adornment, bringing a touch of glamour to everyday life. The 'Little KAGE Dress' (LKD) has become synonymous with the KAGE brand.
Although originally Palestinian both Arwa and Basma grew up in Dubai with their families. The girls became fast friends at a very young age and have remained close ever since. While the designers have always been interested in fashion and design, each of them initially took different university and career paths.
Arwa began her university life in London Ontario in Canada but quickly relocated to pursue her education in Psychology in Beirut. In addition, she also took courses in fashion at the highly prestigious Central Saint Martins College of Art & Design in London. It was here that her real appreciation for fashion began. Arwa's professional experience includes marketing for PepsiCo International. However, her real style and fashion experience came from her most recent job as Fashion Marketing Manager and in-house buyer for Chalhoub, a regional and local luxury brand distributor based in Dubai. Here, Arwa was in charge of the accounts for Ralph Lauren, Marc Jacobs, Mulberry, Bonpoint, Paul & Joe and Celine amongst many other renowned names in the industry.
Basma on the other hand, began her college years at the American University of Beirut and then moved to Northeastern University in Boston where she obtained a Bachelors of Science in Sociology and a minor in Communication Studies. Shortly after graduating she went on to better her linguistic skills in Paris where she took a French language course for 6 months. After returning to Dubai, Basma began working for the consumer marketing division of Asdaa, one of the UAE's leading public relations consultancies and later joined her private family business, Porcelain International in the UAE as the head of the marketing department.
Towards the middle of 2009 both girls decided to leave their jobs for the love of fashion and establish a holding company, ONE6FOUR7 TM LTD that has now resulted in KAGE.
